17th Annual Hot Stove Banquet Sells Out

By Heather Hubbs, Reporter

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - There are 77 days until opening day for the Cedar Rapids Kernels, but the team is already busy helping to make a difference in the community. Thursday is the Kernels 17th annual Hot Stove Banquet.

For the first time, the event is sold-out. One reason for this could be because the members of the Minnesota Twins, the Kernels new affiliate, will be attendance. They'll be signing autographs. There will also be a Hall of Fame induction and auction. Every dollar raised goes to the Kernels Foundation.

"The money goes to projects all through Cedar Rapids and Eastern Iowa. The Switch Program, Metro YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, baseball leagues, disaster relief, you name it. Anything that supports recreational activities," Brandon Clemens, Entertainment and Community Relations Manger, said.

While the dinner is sold out there are still standing room only tickets available for $15. That gets a person access to everything but the meal. The fundraiser starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Cedar Rapids Marriott.
