Waterloo Car Crash Leaves One Man Dead

WATERLOO, Iowa - A traffic crash at the intersection of N. Canfield Road and E. Cedar Wapsi Road left one victim dead Wednesday afternoon.

Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call at about 2:00 p.m. According to a press release, Lee Benter, 26, of Oelwein was traveling northbound on Canton Road when his car was hit by another vehicle traveling eastbound. The second driver disobeyed a stop sign.

Benter and his two passengers were unharmed, however, the second driver received fatal injuries. The man was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He died shortly after.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

Deputies were assisted by Dunkerton and Waterloo Fire Departments.
