COUNCIL BLUFFS (AP) - A Council Bluffs man has been convicted of killing his neighbor.

A Pottawattamie County jury found Kaine Dye guilty Friday of first-degree murder in the January 2007 beating death of William Moser.

Prosecutors say Dye killed Moser three days after getting out of jail and stuffed the body in a trash can.

Authorities say Dye stole Moser's truck and led deputies on a high-speed chase before they lost sight of the truck. The truck was found the next day near Missouri Valley. Moser's body and a trash can were nearby.

Defense attorneys say Dye was mentally ill and insane at the time of the slaying.

Sentencing is set for May 12.
