DES MOINES - The Associated Press reports that the Marshalltown toddler rescued from a house fire earlier this week has died.

It says Erin Wendt, of Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines, reported 1-year-old Kevin Stackhouse Junior died Thursday night.

There had previously been varying reports on his condition.

We learned on Thursday he had been in critical condition, since being rescued from Monday's house fire.

Officials say his grandfather, Chris Stackhouse died while trying to save the boy.

The cause remains under investigation, although officials do believe the fire started in the basement of the home.
