NEW HAMPTON (AP) - A former day care employee faces nine counts of child endangerment stemming from a state investigation into child abuse allegations.

The Chickasaw County sheriff's department says Kayla Marie Hageman had worked for Over the Rainbow Day Care Inc. in Lawler in northeastern Iowa.

Officials say the charges against her stemmed from an October 2007 investigation by the Iowa Department of Human Services.

The charges are aggravated misdemeanors. If convicted, Hageman faces up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000 on each count.

The Chickasaw County attorney's office declined to comment on the case, and the sheriff's office said it would release no further details.
