School Bus Crash In Buchanan County

By Cassie Huisman

BUCHANAN COUNTY - A school bus has been involved in an accident. It happened at the intersection of Iowa Avenue and 290th Street in Buchanan County, near the town of Rowley.

The Independence School District bus is resting on its side in a ditch. From the muddy tire marks it looks like it just slipped off the road. The Buchanan County Sheriff says it happened around four this afternoon. The bus was carrying students elementary to high school age. When emergency responders arrived the students were already out of the bus and waiting at a house with the driver. The students followed their emeregency procedures. It appears they crawled or walked out of the back.

Two ambulances took students to the local hospital for precautionary measures and another bus picked up the other students just to be observed.

Officials say weather could have played a part in the crash. The investigation continues.

I recall this happening earlier this school year west of Muscatine, very similar, but not weather related.
