Iowa Ghost Hunt

By Cassie Huisman

IOWA CITY (AP) - Is the Johnson County Poor Farm and
Asylum haunted?
That's what the Johnson County Historical Society wants to find
out. County officials gave their informal OK today for a paranormal
team to look into it.
Society spokesman Brandon Cochran says there have been no
reports of ghosts, but says one of the most common questions from
folks who tour to the 153-year-old building is whether it's
haunted.
Cochran says the Carroll Area Paranormal Team would come in for
a night to see of there's any paranormal activity.
Cochran says a date for an investigation hasn't been set. He
says an agreement has to be drafted releasing the county of any
liability before supervisors formally approve the request.
Supervisor Pat Harney has concerns whether bringing ghost
hunters would add to rumors.
The remaining wing still standing was built in 1855 and housed
mentally ill patients who, at the time, were deemed insane.
The poor farm became the county home and is now the location of
Chatham Oaks, a home for people over 16 with mental or physical
disabilities.
