Cedar Rapids - The Cedar Rapids Kernels are hoping to avoid a repeat of last year's home opener.
The team had to call off the game because of snow.
It's not one day of snow that's the concern this year, it's more like a winter's worth of it.
The field at Veteran's Memorial Stadium just started getting its spring make-over.
The stadium's turf manager says the special sand-based field helps a lot.
It's something most major league stadiums have.
And it's the reason snow melt hasn't made too big a mess.
Opening day is Monday, April 7th when the Kernels take on the Quad Cities River Bandits.
