DES MOINES (AP) - The Senate has unanimously passed two measures aimed at protecting consumers from identity theft.

Both bills still need approval from the House and Governor Culver.

The first measure allows a ``security freeze'' on credit information. Consumers who pay a $10 fee could ask credit agencies to withhold that information from everyone.

The second measure applies to businesses that hold sensitive personal financial information about a consumer, such as a bank account number or credit card information. The measure would require those businesses to implement security procedures to keep the information private. Should those firewalls fail and access to the financial data is gained, the consumer would have to be notified.
