Flooding In An Unexpected Spot

PALO - Todd Pierson says he bought the house in this new development in Palo thinking the best years were ahead. Then, he looked out his back door.

"Looking back, I enjoyed the sub-zero temperatures and all the snow we received," said Pierson.

That's because there's no barrier between his basement and his neighbor's farm field, and the snow melting on top only has one place to go.

"Who knows how much more is going to be coming through our yards, and there's nothing we can do, we need to just let it run it's course," said Pierson.

You'd like to blame this flooding on this year's near record snowfall. But you can't. Pierson said the flooding was this bad last year too.

He says the company that built the homes plans on building a barrier back there this summer. But, that won't happen until the snow melts, and runs through his or a few of his neighbors' basements.

Moving isn't an option.

"I really love my house and don't want to move. But, who's going to buy a house that's been flooded two years in a row? Probably nobody," said Pierson.

Which means his 3 sump pumps and up to 4 outdoor pumps won't be quiet anytime soon.
