Man Charged with Attempted Murder Following Cedar Rapids ShootingBy Jeff Raasch, Reporter
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A Cedar Rapids man is accused attempted murder after police say he found another man with his ex-girlfriend.
Mark C. Rolan Jr., 22, has been charged with attempted murder, willful injury and child endangerment after a shooting Thursday morning at an apartment at 5235 Johnson Ave. SW, No. 2. Rolan is accused of shooting DeShawn Meier, 28, once in the upper leg and then running away, police said. Police responded around 6:30 a.m. to Arrowridge Apartments when the shooting was reported. Officer Melissa Henderson, a police spokeswoman, said investigators determined Rolan had been drinking before he came back to his ex-girlfriend's apartment and found Meier inside. Family members say Rolan and the woman had broken up weeks earlier. The young son of Rolan and his ex-girlfriend was sleeping in an adjacent bedroom at the time of the shooting, but was not injured, police said. Rolan turned himself into authorities on Friday afternoon. He was taken to the Linn County Jail. Most Popular
