Two People Killed in Crash South of Mt. Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa - Two people were killed and a third was injured following a crash on Thursday in Henry County.

The Iowa State Patrol said the crash happened at about 9:35 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Highway 218 and Salem Road, south of Mt. Pleasant. Troopers said a motor home was traveling southbound on Highway 218 when an SUV pulled in front of it at Salem Road. The motor home attempted to steer left to avoid the crash, but the two collided. The SUV rolled into the ditch.

Authorities said Fae Doreen Black, 71, and Janet Estalee Long, 75, both of Keosauqua, were killed in the crash.

Janet Meyer, 71, of Buckner, Missouri was transported to the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Her condition was not released.
