WATERLOO - A baby's death last night could lead to more serious charges against his 22-year-old father.
Waterloo police arrested Antwuan Williams Senior on Saturday after officers found his eight month-old son, Antwaun Junior, not breathing and unresponsive.
Waterloo investigators say Antwaun Williams was charged with child endangerment and willful injury after the emergency call to the family's home on Broadway Street.
Court documents show emergency room doctors found 11 previously broken bones on the baby's body. There were also signs of bleeding behind the eyes. Investigators say that's considered evidence of a shaken baby case.
Williams was alone with the baby here at the time of the emergency call. The baby died Tuesday night at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Charges against Williams could be upgraded to murder once police finish that investigation.
"The autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow and once we get that, there are investigative issues that we need to conclude. Then we'll visit with the County Attorney's Office and see what direction this will go from here," said Captain Bruce Arends, Waterloo Police Department.
Williams remains in the Black Hawk County jail on $200,000 bond from the original child endangerment and willful injury charges.
State welfare workers have removed two other children from the home, Antwaun Williams Junior’s twin sister and an older child.
