DES MOINES (AP) - The National Association of State Fire Marshals is trying to ban novelty cigarette lighters across the country.

They argue the devices look similar to children's toys and magic markers.

California, Washington, Arkansas and the European Union have all passed local ordinances keeping them off store shelves.

Iowa lawmakers considered the same measure last year. It could come up again this session.

Lighter distributors say the product is marketed for adults and it's up to parents to watch their kids.
