CEDAR RAPIDS - The State of Iowa says it helped a record number of Iowans become first-time home buyers last year.

The Iowa Finance Authority has a low-interest loan program to help young people take root here.

In 2007, more than 3,400 Iowans used the program to purchase their first homes.

More than a quarter of those new home buyers were in Linn, Johnson, Dubuque and Black Hawk counties.
