It only took a jury about four hours to reach a guilty verdict in the Kyle Marin double murder trial.
Thursday a jury said Marin killed cousins Katrina Hill and Molly Edmondson in a Cedar Rapids apartment in April of 2006.
Marin will be sentenced to a mandatory life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Before the judge could finish reading the verdict, the families of the two teens wept.
"We are satisfied with the verdict, and would like to thank the county attorney's office, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the jury and the Horizons Survivors Program for all of their hard work. However, we are reminded that none of this will bring our girls back," said Raymond Hill, Katrina's father.
Marin didn't show any emotion when the judge read the verdict. That bothered the roommate Molly Edmondson lived with in that fateful apartment.
"It got a lot off my chest, and just knowing that he's going to be in there for the rest of his life, and knowing he can't harm anybody else makes me feel better," said Norma Montoya.
Montoya wasn't at the apartment that night, but she's been back to the apartment since.
It was tough she said, especially since she was friends with the victims, and the killer.
"Its over but they're not back, so it doesn't change anything," said Montoya. "They're still gone."
Gone, but not forgotten. Now the healing can continue.
Marin's family didn't want to comment after the case. The jury also refused to speak about the case.
Marin will be sentenced at a later date.
The families of the victims are expected to speak to Marin at the sentencing hearing about what the murders have done to them.
