DUBUQUE - After a century of loaning books, Dubuque's Carnegie-Stout Public Library is ready to move to the next phase.

Library directors are kicking-off a $6 million capital campaign to renovate the old building.

Trenton and Connor Grierson spend a lot of time hanging out at the public library.

Trenton said, "Generally I just use the computer to check my e-mails and play a couple games."

Directors say this 105-year-old library is up-to-date on all the newest technology.

The library is rolling out these high-tech laptop computers that automatically upgrade themselves.

Susan Henricks, Library Director said, "Desktop computers take a lot of room and we are out of space."

Patrons can now use their library cards to download movies.

Henricks said, "You can download a book so you can put that on your MP3 player and listen to it wherever you may travel."

The library's board of directors is raising funds for a $6 million renovation project to help the old building catch up with the new technology.

Henricks said, "Our buildings are old and we are trying to accommodate for the 21st century."

Remember the glass floor in the old section of the library?

It's been closed to the public for almost 20 years, but it's coming back.

Henricks said, "We're going to be offering it as a reading area and sit in comfortable furniture and relax and enjoy reading."

A top to bottom renovation bringing together the old and the new.

Tomorrow the library will be celebrating its 105th birthday.

The public celebration and kick-off for the capital campaign starts at 11 a.m.
