By Becky Ogann

BONAPARTE - It was one year ago that the town of Bonaparte made national headlines when an entire family was found gunned down in their home.

The Bentler family - parents Michael and Sandra - and teenagers Sheena, Shelby and Shayne were shot in their Bonaparte home.

Their son and brother, Shawn Bentler, is appealing his convictions for their murders to the Iowa Supreme Court.

Authorities say he wanted the family's inheritance from a lucrative grain business. That inheritance was denied after he was found guilty in the killings, and sentenced to life in prison.
