KEOKUK COUNTY, Iowa - The Keokuk County Sheriff's office says a 50-year-old woman was killed by the storm on a farm northeast of Kinross.

Another person, a 40-year-old woman, was critically injured in Martinsburg, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities say both women had been outside prior to the storms arrival. The National Weather Service was in Keokuk County Monday and determined a tornado packing winds of 110 mph hit the area. That is classified as an EF-1 tornado.

"It was scary," said Jacque Janssens, who was inside her parents mobile home when the storm moved in.

Janssens said she was about to watch the storm roll in from the front seat of her minivan when debris shattered a nearby window in the house, nearly hitting her.

"I could have been killed," she said.

The minivan's front windshield was also shattered by flying debris.

The tornado caused extensive damage to several properties in the Martinsburg area. Officials say it passed through parts of Keokuk, Iowa and Johnson Counties.
