DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is scheduled to headline a Republican fundraising dinner in Iowa this spring. It would be Walker's first foray into the leadoff caucus state as a presidential prospect.
The Polk County Republican Party says Walker is scheduled to give the keynote speech at the county's spring fundraising event on May 23 in West Des Moines.
Elected in 2010, Walker is a popular figure with conservatives, having signed legislation in 2011 sharply restricting public employee union rights, and beating the effort to recall him from office in 2012.
Past headliners of the Iowa event include 2012 presidential prospects Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann.
Walker is also a featured speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington this week. The event is closely watched by GOP activists nationally.
