SOLON, Iowa - The growing city of Solon should have a new well by the beginning of November, if construction plans run smoothly.

City Administrator Cassandra Lippincott said the new well will be the city's fourth, because of a growing population. The well will be located by the Solon Recreation and Nature area if required tests come back positive.

'The flow test hasn't come out so well,' Lippincott said. 'The flow is a lot lower than expected.' Bacteria tests also returned positive, but Lippincott said that's very common in the early stages. After ultra chlorinating twice and pumping for 24 hours, tests came back fine. Lippincott said the iron content from the test well was extremely low.

This is good news for the city because it means the water won't need to be filtered.

She said the next steps are waiting to hear results from other required tests, which should take a few weeks.

If the other tests don't return with good results, Lippincott said there are other possible sites for the test well.

'That would not be our preference though,' she said.
