IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa State Fair says a police booth will display information about two missing Iowa cousins and accept tips about their whereabouts.
The fair faced harsh criticism online Tuesday after turning down a request from volunteers who wanted a booth so they could give out information about 10-year-old Lyric Cook and 9-year-old Elizabeth Collins.
Fair spokeswoman Lori Chappell says the deadline had passed to apply to rent a booth and all 700 are taken. She says fair policy only allows groups that have booths to distribute information on the grounds.
But Chappell says the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation had already been planning to display a poster of information and a lockbox to receive tips at its booth. She says the girls "are not being forgotten."
