Culver Assembling Team, but Still No Announcement

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - Gov. Chet Culver is putting together a highly respected campaign team, is expanding his campaign office and has raised big money for his re-election bid.

All that's left is to actually announce he's seeking a second term.

While a number of Republicans have edged closer to running for governor, Culver hasn't made an official announcement. He's made clear, though, that he intends to seek a second term.

The Democratic governor announced Thursday he'd hired veteran political operative John Frew as his new chief of staff, and Teresa Vilmain has signed on as a senior adviser to his campaign.

Culver has raised more than $1 million toward his re-election and is expanding his campaign office near the Capitol.
