Iowa Republicans Question Democrats Pay Raises

DES MOINES - Despite a promised pay freeze, Iowa Republicans say state payrolls will actually balloon by $120-million.

The increase comes mainly from scheduled raises for state workers. Democrats say the step pay raises bring salaries into line with market value.

But Republican Representative Kraig Paulsen of Hiawatha said in a statement: "While private sector employees are dealing with layoffs, furloughs, and higher health insurance premiums, state government is actually doing the opposite."
