This JustIN: Nightlife is Back

Blog by Justin Foss

September 8, 2008: The nightlife in downtown Cedar Rapids is back!  It feels so  good writing that.  This last weekend I made a tour of the local bars that have opened since the flood waters left.  That included Bricks, Volume and Karma.

The three bars were packed and I could tell people were excited to feel a sense of normalcy with a Saturday night.  Sure, since the floods hit, we've all toured the high and dry bars like the Irish Democrat, Mahoney's and Cocktails (there are of course more bars to visit in Cedar Rapids, but I don't have time to list all of them).

However, I have to say at the other bars in town, the crowds haven't been impressive.  I was expecting the bars to be packed because no one could go downtown.  But that really didn't seem the case.  Where did all the partyers go?

Now we're slowly coming back to a buzzing downtown, and more will come every day.  For example, Zins, Blend and the Piano Lounge are nearing completion and should be done in the upcoming months!

We're getting close folks, I can feel it.
