This JustIN: 9 Questions with Sara Stewart

Blog by Justin Foss

By Justin Foss

August 25, 2008: Today we're getting to know Sara Stewart.  You see her on our morning shows and sometimes on Saturday nights.

I sent Sara a list of 9 questions a few weeks ago, here are her answers:

Where is your favorite place to go out and eat in Eastern Iowa?  And what do you order there?

A: I love food, so I have several favorites. I love Tomaso’s Pizza. It’s the best pizza I’ve ever had. I get the Detroit style pizza because, as they say, the cheese caramelizes over the crust and it’s delicious! It’s almost like a Chicago style pizza, but better. I’m getting hungry thinking about it. I also love Casa las Gloria’s. I always get the chili con queso to start with chips and then a bean burrito with the queso sauce on top. That is delicious.

We see you every morning on the news; do you have a breakfast staple?

A: In the mornings I normally eat Smart Start. But I don’t use milk. I eat it out of a baggie on my way to work. When you’re waking up as early as I do, sleep is more precious than having extra time to sit down and eat breakfast-to me at least.

It’s been a hot summer, do you take Lemonade or Iced Tea?

A: I drink iced tea. Sometimes a mix of both! My tea has to be sweet. I like lemon and sugar in it.

It’s tough to be lively at 5:00 a.m.  What is your advice to being so happy in the morning?

A: I drink coffee, and I’m a lively person in general. But a lot of times my stories are not happy stories so it doesn’t always shine through.

KCRG isn’t your first turn on the merry-go-round.  What is your funniest TV story?

A: I’ve been thinking of this for a while, and I’m not sure I can come up with one. One of my favorite experiences as a reporter is the time I got to fly with the Blue Angels. I had to prepare myself for a few months before-but when it came time for the flight, I was still nervous and I did pass out for a few short moments because of the G’s we pulled. Needless to say I am very impressed at what those pilots go through and still have full control of a multi-million dollar airplane.

We’ve noticed your hairstyle changes throughout the morning.  Why?

A: I have curly and wavy hair that is very sensitive to the weather. Sometimes I give in and instead of straightening it, I let it go it’s natural way.

You lived in Germany for a bit, what did you like about that experience?

A: All the traveling! We traveled all around Europe and even went into Northern Africa.

You went to Iowa, what is your favorite big 10 team to hate? Why?

A: I can’t say that I have any. I do enjoy the Iowa State Rivalry in the Big 12, and my older sister went to ISU, so that makes it better. She’s a good sport and has even worn and “Iowa” t-shirt when she and her husband came to tailgate with us. Of course Iowa wasn’t playing ISU.

Any hidden talents?

A: I don’t have any hidden talents. I speak German fluently, and I can get by in a few other languages.
