May 15, 2008: We've been in Postville and Waterloo since Monday morning.  It's been a long news week.  Each day, reporters are challenged with finding the latest stories and angles on the situation involving the raid.  We've had a lot of complaints and compliments about the coverage.

Some stories haven't been covered yet.  The key word there is yet.  Today the Des Moines Register said immigration experts are expecting charges to come against the operators of Agri-processors INC.  But, those charges haven't happened yet.  And truthfully, might never happen.  That's up to federal prosecutors.  Right now, anybody close to the situation, that actually knows the situation isn't talking.

We had one person call tonight and ask if we've even asked if charges against the plant will happen.  Trust me, we've asked.  I've personally asked several times.  But, the Feds have refused to comment.  I can't run a story that accuses someone of mis-conduct unless I have proof to back it up.  Right now, if there was any proof to have on the plant owners, it's being looked at by the Feds.

Some might say, do some digging.  We are.  We just haven't found anything yet.  And to be fair, there might not be anything to find.  But, we'll keep on top of it and never stop listening.

Hey "thinking out loud" person, put some more thought into your comments before you post. If you want to trace your thoughts every day, start a diary.

Those illegals must not be very good negotiators if they bargain for such low wages and crummy work conditions. I wonder if the govt. could enforce the immigration laws against employers instead of sending midwestern guardspeople to the border?

I wish you media guys would think about the price that Americans are paying for the jobs that the illegals are taking. They are lowering the wages and dreams of our fellow citizens.
