Iowa Family Wins Prize for Nation's Ugliest Front Door

By Becky Ogann

DES MOINES (AP) - A central Iowa family is the proud owner of America's ugliest front door.

Tuesday, Merle and Marsha Hall of Granger were named the grand prize winners of a national contest designed to find "the country's biggest entryway eyesores."

The contest was organized by Ohio-based Therma-Tru Doors, which will award products to repair the warped door on the Halls' 1929 craftsman-style home.

Judges sifted through more than 200 entries before choosing the Halls' door. Janis Boulware of Montgomery, Texas, won second place.

Krista Watterworth, one of the judges, says the Halls' door needed a miracle cure.

Before and after photographs of the door makeover will be posted at www.myuglydoor.com.
