An update now on what has pretty much consumed every waking moment for me this past week…and I don’t even know where to begin.
Okay, you all know by now I’m getting hitched in Mexico. Well my dad went to make the final payment on our rooms, only to discover we had just 6 out of 10 rooms that had been booked for our wedding package deal. We had to have 10 rooms to get the whole shebang.
Well turns out, they forgot to mention that if you don’t book through them, the rooms won’t count toward the allotment. So basically, we had 3 couples book through a travel agent, therefore not counting toward our total. The resort said if we could book to 10 rooms, they’d honor our payment even a bit late. So off to scramble I go to make sure I can get married there!
Rebooking is not an option for those who booked with the travel agent…in fact, it would have been expensive….thousands of dollars expensive….to change their reservations.
So in the end, my fiancé and I just went ahead and booked the rooms in the names of those who we “know are coming” but hadn’t booked yet, and had to even book an extra room to get to our total. But, I think we’re there. This whole thing started last Friday, and is still ongoing today!
Boy getting married is expensive. We did the Mexico thing because we thought it would be A) Cheaper, and B) Easier. Hmmm…Now I’m wondering!
On a positive, we decided to go with the printed labels. Boy are we glad we did, because we had to spend hours anyway looking up addresses. Thank you to the following sites..411.com and whitepages.com. Yay for being able to find all those peeps! So anyway, we went out and bought labels, and after a few mess ups managed to print labels which ink color almost exactly matches our invitations. Awesome! So thanks for all of your input on that dilemma...it made it so much easier to make a decision knowing I had people rooting for me.
Another positive? I had a great experience working with the department of vital records. We have to have certified copies of our birth certificates, and what is called an “apostille” document, which basically means our documents can be used abroad. The lady I talked to was so sweet. She something along these lines : “ Oh I’ll take care of your birth certificates, and then I’ll just take care of the apostille too…they’re just right across the hall.” That was really easy. Then I had my man call, he talked to the same lady, and she even sent them all to our address in ONE ENVELOPE. Amazing service, and so easy to deal with.
So there's an update for you. Here's to making sure everything goes off *with a hitch... :-)

Congrats on your upcoming wedding! I just got married on July 19th - a very small church wedding with only our parents and siblings in attendance. Planning a wedding is stressful, no matter what the size or where the location. I hope that your wedding is everything you could have ever hoped for and more. The day goes by super fast ~ so enjoy it! Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness :)
