Whew! Things have been very busy around here the past couple of weeks. We’ve had some changes, and soon you’ll likely meet the newest member of our morning show team. Look out for him next week!
In the meantime, I’d like to take a moment to write about Earth Day.
I can remember in Elementary school, how great a job educators did at promoting being good to the earth. We took nature walks, planted class trees (I wonder how big the one I planted back then at school is now!) and did activities to promote awareness of keeping the Earth beautiful.
And I think there’s been a lot of campaigning for the “green” movement. I know I’ve become more aware.
I have one of those big giant blue bins for recycling in Cedar Rapids…and it’s almost become a personal mission to fill it up every week, instead of sending things to the landfill. Any box from my numerous frozen dinners…in the bin. The frozen dinner containers…in the bin. It seems everything comes in a plastic container. So, if they can, into the bin they go. That’s my recycling iniative.
As far as re-using….I have started buying my lunchmeat in the Tupperware containers…and then reusing those to store other leftovers after I’m done with the meat. My mom washes out her plastic bags, and so I’ve started doing that when it’s applicable…
And then for reducing? I bought all of those lightbulbs that are supposed to use less energy and last longer. Also one thing I’m aiming to start doing more of? Unplugging things that aren’t being used. I’ve been hearing a lot lately about “phantom” power, where power’s being zapped even though things may be “powered off”. So I’m on the lookout now for Smart power strips that allegedly cut off power to anything that’s been turned off.
So anyway, these are just a few ways I’m trying to help. I could probably do more…but I know every little bit helps to reduce my “carbon footprint”
Do you have any ways you Reduce, Reuse and Recycle? I’d be interested to hear or see what others are doing!! Email me at Ashley.hinson@kcrg.com or post a comment!

I finally came here looking for information on what happened to Scott and see I'm not alone. I really liked Scott and Joe as a team and even Scott without Joe, but don't like Joe solo - seems to have lost something when he got the lead job. Also, I always used to go to KCRG first and foremost for weather, but now I think the all male weather brotherhood ther just doesn't do the job as well (those guys need some personality) and KWWL weather info and crew is better by far!

I don't watch KCRG much any more for early morning news, and I am always up at the time they(Joe&Scott) come on. Its just not the same anymore. Better bring Scott back, if you fired him, better get down on your knees and beg, before you lose out, I watch CNN more now. I loved your early morning show, SCOTT & JOE. Just made my day. GET SCOTT BACK AND JOE.

I'm sorry to say this, but the new guy is unbelievably annoying! His coverage of the flood was the absolute worst. Clare, Beth, Ashley and Bruce were outstanding. However, while this new guy was speaking, I found myself changing the channel.

Sigourney, IA wishes Scott the very best and miss his presence. For many of us, it was wondering if he was physically alright. Not everyone who watches KCRG lives in CR. He and Joe had a unique style that is greatly missed. It really doesn't matter to us why he left; it is knowing he won't be part of our daily lives anymore. Change is difficult to accept in life, however, sometimes it is for the best for both sides. Good luck Scott and good luck to those who are new to KRCG.

okay - let's give the "newbies" as you're calling them a benefit of the doubt. Of course - Scott was a great presence on the air. But, I know of people that have worked with him and he is anything but nice to the staff. As far as nothing being said - whoever posted earlier that it's not supposed to be known - I'd stay on that track. Lots of people are not what they seem on TV!

If there is such silence about someone's departure, it's probably a hint that it wasn't an amicable departure...

The early morning news just isn't the same without Scott, I did hear from Beth she was kind enough to respond to me. She said Scott likes sleeping in, who can blame him for that, but that doesn't explain why he left so sudden. Please come back we miss your smile and the people that took your place just don't seem to measure up, sorry.

I too am very disappointed in KCRG's lack of information on Scott leaving. I miss him so much in the mornings and have been very concerned about his health. I really do not like the morning team at all now. Scott and Joe had great repore and we so natural. This new team is stiff and unatural. they try to be like Scott and Joe, but it just does not work. I find myself no longer watching the news either. I watch the weather and get the rest from the web. Please tell us what happened!

Ashley, Great blog. I think it's really interesting how the Pope has even got involved with green. Green, it's not just for hippies anymore. One thing we have done is use the toilet several times (#1 only) before we flush. We also re-use SCOTT brand paper towels several times before we recycle them. I've always thought you brought nothing but A game to the morning show. I hope someday you can PUNCH a HOLE in the sky, and go on to the next level. - P. Cupp

The viewers don't "deserve" an answer as to why Scott left. There was an article in the Gazette that told us he left. Shouldn't that be enough of an explanation? No one owes you an explanation. Maybe the reasons he resigned were personal - obviously he didn't feel they needed to be announced. If you were such "loyal fans of Scott" you'd respect his wishes.

I too can't start my day without Scott. It's been quite a change. I find myself watching no news in the morning, just Fox News! The public does have a right to know, it's too bad they couldn't keep Scott they chose Ashley for some odd reason instead, probably because they could pay someone less for mediocre work rather than someone who is a veteran, experienced anchor for more.

Ashley, I can't start my day without Scott in the AM. We have watched KCRG for years and I think we deserve some answers. What gives ? Thanks, Linda

My family is wondering the same as everyone else - did Scott just disappear off of the news without any goodbye show? We always liked watching Scott and Joe... and Scott and Ashley later.

It's too bad that Scott isn't at the station anymore. I no longer watch KCRG because of Scott not being on the set anymore for unknown reasons. Now the KCRG morning news belongs to amateurs, no more veteran reporters like Scott on there to report the days news to us. I feel like I'm watching two teenagers report the news now. It's horrible. I hope KCRG knows that their ratings are going down.

I just emailed the news director at KCRG asking what happened to Scott and her response was he resigned in late March. That doesn't tell me anything as to what happened or what he is doing now.He was the best!!

I too am wondering where Scott went. When Denny retired there was all kinds of attention, makes you wonder why not for Scott? Or did he not retire? I think the loyal followers of the morning show deserve an answer.

Can you let me know about Scott Sanborn as the other reader wanted to know. I didn't know if he was having heart problems again. He encouraged so many others...Thanks Lisa
