Albino Alligator Goes on Display at Zoo in Green Bay

By Becky Ogann

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - A rare albino alligator is now on display at NEW Zoo in Green Bay.

The zoo paid $10,000 for the 4-year-old alligator from the St. Augustine Alligator Farm in Florida. The alligator known as Lucky arrived last weekend but did not go on display until Friday.

Zoo director Neil Anderson says Lucky stayed in the zoo's hospital until an appropriate habitat was set up. It includes a roof to keep direct sunlight off the albino animal.

Anderson says sunburn is a concern because Lucky has no pigment in his skin.

There are 30 known albino alligators in the U.S. NEW Zoo operations manager Maria Fisher says she expects Lucky to be a big draw.
