DES MOINES (AP) - The state is honoring Iowa artists on Monday.

Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge will hold the first Iowa Artists Showcase at the State Capitol at 5 p.m.

Judge says the arts are vital to the state, attracting business and tourists. She says promoting the arts is one of her top priorities.

The event will be held once every four months and feature artwork submitted by Iowa artists. Judge will choose the pieces that will go on display in the governor's office until the next showcase event.

Monday night's event highlights the works of central Iowa artists Brent Houzenga and Noemi Oyarzabal.
