Becker Pleads Not Guilty to Killing Coach Ed Thomas

By Becky Ogann

PARKERSBURG (AP) - The man accused of killing Aplington-Parkersburg High School football coach Ed Thomas has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder.

Mark Becker, 24, a former player, is accused of shooting Thomas in the school's weight room on June 24. Becker entered a written plea last Thursday in Butler County District Court in Allison.

His plea cancels an arraignment hearing set for Tuesday.

According to online court records, Becker demanded a speedy trial, which means he'll have to stand trial within 90 days.

No trial date was immediately set.

Becker remains in the Cerro Gordo County jail in Mason City on $1 million cash bond.
