Woman Says She Lied to Police About Stabbing

DUBUQUE, Iowa - On Tuesday, Mary C. Padulla, 50, reported she had been stabbed at her Dubuque home by an unknown suspect. Padulla suffered a non-life threatening wound to her abdomen.

As part of the investigation, a follow-up interview was conducted Thursday with Dubuque Police. During the interview, Padulla admitted the stab wound was self-inflicted and that her initial report to law enforcement was indeed fabricated.

The Dubuque County Attorney’s Office is review the case. Falsely reporting a felony is a serious misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $315 to $1,875 and up to one year imprisonment.
