DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa - After further investigation of an overnight fire near Epworth, authorities weren’t able to determine the cause, but are still deeming it as suspicious.

Crews were called to a fire at Ferring’s Mobile Home Park, 14755 North Cascade Rd., around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

When crews got to the scene, they found a shed in flames, with the fire spreading to two mobile homes. The fire destroyed the shed, and seriously damaged one of the homes. The other mobile home had minor damage.

No one was home at the time of the fire. Investigators are ruling it suspicious at this time.

The cause remains under investigation.

According to Epworth Fire Department Fire Chief Tom Berger, authorities re-entered the charred building where the fire originated with an investigator from the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office.

He noted that there was no electricity source in the building the at the time of the fire.

However, nothing was determined from the post-investigation. Fire officials are still deeming it suspicious.

Berger said the sheriff’s office will be following up with further questioning.
