DUBUQUE, Iowa — Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul called for a reduction in spending and lowering the nation's debt during a visit to Dubuque.

Paul, a congressman from Texas, visited the downtown campus of Northeast Iowa Community College Tuesday as part of a three-stop tour through eastern Iowa. About 150 people showed up to hear Paul speak.

Paul told the crowd that the country and the world have changed in the past four years, saying one of the biggest problems the U.S. is facing is too much spending and too much debt.

He says the government needs to get control of its spending and that he believes that's what most people are anxious to talk about.
