New Farmer's Market Launches in CyberspaceBy Katie Wiedemann, Reporter
GALENA, Illinois - A new type of Farmer's Market is aiming to connect local growers and artists to customers ... and it's all being done online.
It’s the first of its kind in Illinois. Website developer Dorian Dickinson said the site is way to blend the convenience of online shopping with the benefits of buying fresh local foods and goods. The website showcases businesses based in Jo Daviess County, Illinois. “There can be situations where we are putting a Chicago restaurant operator in touch with a Jo Daviess County farmer and their products can then be delivered.” Customers can buy food, crafts and other products traditionally found at Farmer’s Markets. The website is expected to draw customers from the Chicago area who frequently visit the Galena area. Dickinson said, “Everything from fresh local meant that Northwest, Illinois is known for to fresh produce, to sweet corn that we all know.” “It’s another avenue and additional profile out there on the internet to create a greater awareness of Galena Cellars and products we produce in Galena and Jo Daviess County,” said Galena Cellars Winery Events Manager Rob Steger. The new Jo Daviess County Farmer’s Market is entirely online. 40 vendors peddle their locally made goods on one website. You can visit the website by clicking here. Most Popular |
