Galena Man Charged In Dubuque Fatal Boating Accident

DUBUQUE, Iowa - A Galena man turned himself in to Dubuque County authorities Thursday, six months after a fatal boat accident on the Mississippi River.

The Department of Natural Resources says, Kent Hoffman, 39 was driving his boat on September 1, 2011 when he crashed into another boat.

James Sutton, 45, of Maquoketa died in the accident .

Investigators say Hoffman’s boat went over the top of Sutton’s boat, which was sitting idle in the harbor.

Hoffman is charged with involuntary manslaughter and operating a boat while intoxicated.
