Woman Reports On-Campus Assault At University of Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- A woman reported she was assaulted on the University of Iowa campus early Sunday morning.
The woman reported to University of Iowa police that she was walking home alone in the area of Byington Road and Melrose Avenue on the west side of campus around 2:45 a.m. when a man appeared in front of her on the sidewalk. The woman told police the man blocked her on the sidewalk and shoved her to the ground.
The woman was able to fight off the alleged attacker, police said.
Police said the woman had minor injuries, but she did not require medical attention. The woman was unable to provide a description of the alleged attacker, except to say he was a man.

The UI police department recommends people walk in groups and report crimes immediately by calling 911. Use of NITE Ride, Cambus or other reliable transportation services is also recommended.
