Waterloo Police Investigate Fatal Stabbing
WATERLOO, Iowa - Police in Waterloo tell KCRG-TV9 that one man has died following a stabbing early Sunday morning. At about 4 a.m. emergency crews responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the 1200 block of West Mullan Avenue.
Police found the victim, John Ladell Bass, age 29, of Waterloo with a single stab wound to his upper chest.
Bass was transported to Allen Hospital where he died from his injuries. No arrests have been made in the case.
Sunday afternoon the scene was back to normal at the apartment complex where it happened. Children were already playing outside near where the scene unfolded.
People who live and spend time just across the street weren't too surprised by the news. They said the area is quiet during the day, but it's not uncommon to see a scene like that break out at night.
"I looked out the camper, we have a camper in the backyard, and I would see ambulances and cops over on that street," said Melissa Cantrell. "It lit up the whole block."
One woman visiting the apartment complex said she's become good friends with Bass in the last couple of years.
"He was a sweet child, I can't say nothing bad about him," said Barbara Clemons. "I don't think nobody else can say nothing bad about him."
Clemons just saw him on Tuesday and said she couldn't believe what happened.
"I can't get it in my mind to know that it's true that he's gone," Clemons said.
Police are not releasing any additional details at this time. Check back for updates.
