WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A 23-year-old Waterloo man has died after being injured in a crash that ended a chase by police.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that Hunter Burchard died Monday night at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Authorities say Waterloo officers tried to stop Burchard shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday because a tail light was out on his motorcycle.

Police say Burchard didn't pull over and the chase started. It ended when his motorcycle crashed into a parked excavator at a construction zone on West 11th Street.

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the incident.
