UI Police Issue Hawk Alert After Robbery

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City Police are searching for a man they say is involved in an armed robbery.

Police were called to Samoa Drive which is just off of Melrose Avenue at 10:05 p.m. Sunday for a call of a suspect threatening a Yellow Cab driver with a gun. Police said the suspect called and asked to be picked up on Samoa Drive and when the driver arrived, the man pulled out a gun and demanded money. Iowa City Police said he was able to get away with some cash.

About 10:42 p.m., University of Iowa Police issued a Hawk Alert. Hawk Alerts are sent out only when University of Iowa Police believe there is a threat to public safety.

Police describe the suspect as a black man in his mid-20s, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information is asked to called Iowa City Crime Stoppers at 319-358-TIPS (8477). There is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
