Pothast Sentencing Delayed Until July

WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) - Sentencing for a Clarksville man convicted of vehicular homicide has been delayed until next month.

A Bremer County jury convicted 20-year-old Alex Pothast last month, finding him guilty of being drunk and driving recklessly when he crashed a car in 2010, killing 18-year-old passenger Joshua Young, of Waverly.

Sentencing has been set to take place this week, but the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that a judge on Monday delayed the hearing to allow the Bremer County District Court to sort through several motions. That includes a request for a second trial filed by defense attorney Matthew Lindholm.

Pothast's new sentencing date is July 26.
