DES MOINES, Iowa —Police have released the identity of a man found dead in the Des Moines River Monday night.

Fishermen found the man dead just at 8:47 p.m. near the Harriett Boat Ramp. A water rescue team was able to recover the man a short time later downstream.

Police said the man was identified as Zachary Johnson, 35, of Des Moines.

An autopsy is being conducted Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death. Police said there were no obvious signs of trauma.

"We'll be following up all our leads and see if there's anything there. Try to find a reason why this may have happened and the detectives will obviously be diligent in finding that information as quick as possible," said Lt. Larry Davey with Des Moines police.

The case remains under investigation.
