Police Release Image of Suspect in Adult Store Robbery

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Iowa City police have released an image of a man suspected in an armed robbery of the Romantix Adult Dhop in January as they continue to investigate the case.

The armed man, who robbed the store at 315 Kirkwood Avenue on January 12, got away with a $250 sex toy. The male suspect reportedly made small talk with a female clerk in the shop at 3 a.m. before displaying a hunting knife and trying to enter the employee area behind the cash register, according to police.

The employee ran from the store, and the suspect chased her for a short distance, according to police Sgt. Denise Brotherton. The man grabbed the sex toy among an undisclosed amount of merchandise before he fled the store, according to police. Officers arrived a short time later.

No one was injured in the incident, according to police.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black coat and scarf over his face, and he was carrying a backpack. The knife he displayed was described as a large hunting knife with a blade about six to eight inches long.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of a suspect. Anyone with information can call CrimeStoppers at 319-358-8477.
