CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Police arrested Ledale Lanehart, 24, of Clarence, Iowa Monday on charges of second-degree robbery . The hold-up happened Thursday the 20th at Guaranty Bank.
Two men were also charged last Friday with aiding and abetting Lanehart who eluded police last week, according to the criminal complaints. Kevin Connor, 18, and Daniel Straw, 23, were charged with second-degree robbery and all three men remain in the Linn County Jail under a $25,000 cash or surety bond set Friday during initial appearances.
According to the criminal complaints, Connor and Straw admitted to helping Lanehart, who was "casing" locations for a robbery. They initially considered U.S. Bank on Mt. Vernon Road SE, but decided the conditions "were not right." The three then drove to a secluded area and parked near Guaranty Bank, 191 Jacolyn Dr. SW. Connor and Straw told police they waited in the car as Lanehart went inside and presented a "hold up" note and robbed the bank.
Connor and Straw told police they moved the car to a better position while Lanehart was inside and then both ran from the scene, leaving the car when they saw police cars in the area, according to the complaints. The two men were captured by police after a foot chase.
Police said Thursday the man who entered the bank took an undisclosed amount of money before running north towards Jacolyn Park. Nobody was injured during the incident.
