Marion Woman Jailed After Exceeding Pseudoephedrine Limit Six Times

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Prosecutors have charged a Marion woman after she allegedly bought too much psuedoephedrine on six different occasions.

Teri A. Koss, 24, of 335 Neta Drive, turned herself in to Cedar Rapids police Friday. She is charged with one count of possession of precursors and six counts of violating pseudoephedrine restrictions.

Pseudoephedrine is one of the ingredients used to make the illegal drug methamphetamine.

Koss violated the limit of 7,500 milligrams per month in September and November of 2009 and in January, April, May and June of 2010, according to a criminal complaint. Police said she made the purchases at various drug stores in the area.

Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Koss used both her maiden and married names when she bought the products. Police said it helped her avoid being caught in the state database that tracks pseudoephedrine purchases.

A local business alerted police Dec. 16 that Koss may have been buying materials used to make meth, police said.

Koss was taken to the Linn County Jail and has since been released.
