DES MOINES, Iowa - A Des Moines man told police he was stabbed while trying to break up a fight early Thursday morning.

Javon Washington, 26, said he went to the Oak View Terrace apartments to meet up with a friend around 2 a.m.

Washington told police when he arrived he saw three men fighting in the parking lot, his friend was among them.

A police report said Washington tried to break up the fight when he was, "punched in the stomach."

"Washington said he didn't see a knife but felt that the hit, took his breath away," the report said.

Washington said once he realized he was bleeding, his friend drove him to Broadlawns Medical Center and left him there.

At the time of the report, Washington's vehicle and his friend were still missing.

Washington was unable to remember his friends full name or phone number when he was interviewed by police.

Officers reported they were unable to find a crime scene at the apartment complex.

The case remains under investigation.
