Man Faces Felony Drug Charges for Distributing Marijuana From His Home

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa – An Independence man faces felony charges, accused of distribution of a controlled substance to a minor within 1000 feet of a city public park, officials said.
Randy D. Funk, 55, has been charged with two more counts of distributing a controlled substance to a person under 18 within 1000 feet of a city public park, and one count of distributing a controlled substance, according to police. Funk had previously been charged for distributing a controlled substance to a person under 18 within 1000 feet of a city public park on October 4. The new charges pertain to July and August incidents when witnesses told police Funk sold marijuana from his residence to a 16-year-old male on multiple occasions and a 19-year-old male on one occasion, police said.
Funk’s residence, 807 Sixth Avenue NE, was searched and marijuana was found in the home, according to police.
Distributing a controlled substance to a minor within 1000 feet of a city public park is a Class B felony, punishable up to 10 years in prison. Distributing a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a city public park is a Class D felony, punishable up to five years in prison.
Funk is currently being held on a $100,000 bond at the Buchanan County Correctional Center.
