Man Faces Charges After Breaking in to Woman's Home, Trying to Assault Her

IOWA CITY, Iowa - A 26-year-old man faces first-degree burglary charges after a woman woke up to him standing over her, attempting to perform a sex act on her.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, on the 600 block of S. Dodge Street.

Police said Javier Vazquez-Chavez left the apartment after the victim started to scream. He later tried to enter another apartment, but ran away.

Officers tracked him down just down the street.

In addition to first-degree burglary, officers charged Vazquez-Chavez with public intoxication.
